I Told You So

I knew all that good luck would go on vacation with the polar bears. I'm hating this week already and it's only Monday.

First, our computer phone line died. A call was made to the phone company and their response stated we may not get it back until Wednesday. Thankfully that wasn't the case.

Second, I've been expecting several packages in the mail. Never really had a huge problem with mail getting here in a timely matter. Someone new must be working at the post office because I've gotten nada. Been waiting a few weeks for some and has yet to show. I swear one day all the mail and packages I was suppose to get will miraculously appear on my front door step. It'll be a happy day. I may even smile.

Last, it seems I may have to send in a withdraw to Apollo's Lyre. Been waiting for over two months for a response to my submission. Sent in a query. A whole lotta nothing in return. I hate when editors feel the need to not even send you a courteous email to say they are backed up or just don't care in general. After I do the honors, I'll have only one submission in limbo. *sigh* I started the year out so well.

WIP Wednesday - Bad News

I had planned on going in to some detail of my next horror satire project. But I received some bad news.

I opened my inbox to find an email from a representative of BlogBurst, the online company I was waiting for a nice size monetary reward from. This money would have gone towards my new computer. The email was in regards to a clerical error. Turns out I wasn't qualified for the reward they notified me about. But to remedy the situation, they are still going to send me $50.

I swear when I saw that email, I nearly started crying. I knew it wouldn't be an error in my favor. Truth is I've been a member of the website for going on three years. Never had a problem with them before. A mistake is a mistake. They could have said, "Sorry we screwed up and you're not getting anything at all."

I have to be honest. I'm a bit broken up about it. I was so close to having a brand new computer. Something I could rely on. No more computer problems or down times where I'm waiting for weeks not being able to do anything. I'll wallow about it for a few days and move on. It's not like its the first time the rug has been ripped out from under me. Just hoped something would go good in my life without any strings.

Don't take this as me giving up. I'm going to keep saving and hopefully I'll be able to afford one sooner rather than later.

I'm Back...I think

So, I took the month off for National Novel Writing Month...sort of. I posted my write-ups via Write Anything. But let's face it. Four blogs is one too many especially when you're trying to keep up with the daily 1,667 word goal with the use of pen and paper. So here's the month in review:

Wrote. Wrote. Wrote. Slept an hour or two. Wrote some more. Pulled out a few handfuls of hair. Wrote again. Thought about tossing something out the window, leaned towards the novel. Wrote. Called off the "sacrificing computer" ceremony. Ultimately finished out the month with 53,736 words. Another successful Nano to add my belt.

Now in to December, I have a bit of good news and bad news. I'll hit you with the bad news first. My cat Garfield, the little monster...I mean angel of my life for the last seven or eight years, died early morning on December 1st. He had been sick for the last month or so. Didn't want him to die but I'm glad he isn't suffering anymore. Rest in Peace, old friend...

Now on to the good news. Despite saying they were going to stay for only a week, my brother and his girlfriend are moving out of our house several months after the fact. Finally, peace and quiet. Though I doubt it will last long. They'll screw up or run out of money and be back here sooner or later. There's always a reason. However, I'm going to enjoy the quiet for as long as I can.

Next, the wet news. Yes, I said wet. Early this morning, I had the pleasure of walking in on a little "spill" in the kitchen. I'm not exactly sure what happened but a leak was sprung in the kitchen. I stepped ankle deep in the pond rapidly forming on the tile. And one of our mats tried to make a break for it. Of course, I had to notify the warden of the situation and he was moved to a secure location for the time being. The water turned off under the sink and the pond sucked dry. Crisis adverted until it could be properly evaluated. I'll keep you updated when more details become available.

Last but most exciting, I'm hosting a contest at my other blog Ghost Stories. Offer up your opinion and you will be in the running for a $25 Amazon Gift Certificate! Check out the details.

VMAs

Did you see the VMAs? I have to admit I'm not one who just loves to watch award shows but every now and then I scope one out. The Michael Jackson tribute was great. Loved Madonna's speech at the beginning. I guess it wouldn't be a tribute without one Jackson participating. Glad it was Janet. Great performances by Pink and Lady Gaga. I have to say I like her music but Lady Gaga's choice of wardrobe is a little much for me.

I still can't believe Kanye West ruined Taylor Swift's VMA moment. How much of a jerk do you have to be to jump on stage and do that? I mean fine. You like Beyonce more than Taylor. Doesn't mean you should snatch the microphone from Taylor and make a fool of yourself telling everyone that. Don't like the guy and never will.

I'm just glad Beyonce did the classy thing and let Taylor make her acceptance speech.

I started doing blog carnivals on Ghost Stories a few months back. In every edition, there is at least one spam submission. It’s no big deal. I just expect it. I Know Who Killed Your Career

Page-a-Day WC - 161 words

I watched I Know Who Killed Me last night. Everyone said this movie was bad when it came out but had to see it for myself. OMG! This movie soooo killed her career. Half the time I didn't know what the hell was going on. It was suppose to be about stigmata twins but turned out beyond bad. I think there should have been a warning label: "bury it in the back yard never to be unearthed again." The whole Doublemint twin thing worked fine with Parent Trap. This one should have been left alone. Seriously Lindsay....leave horror to the professionals, ok? Stick with what you know.

Most Annoying

Page-a-day WC - 169 words

I so hate renovations. My mom and Alan picked this weekend to re-do our bathroom. A certain someone took a screwdriver to our bathtub. Therefore we needed a new one. So instead of just replacing the bathtub and nothing else, they decided to work or replace some pipes, move the water heater from one end of the tub to the other and a few other things. This project is suppose to be done before the weekend is over but I'm not banking on that. It probably wouldn't be so bad if the bathroom wasn't right next door to my room. *sigh* Oh well...

Boycott

Page-a-day WC - 139 words

I have had serious thoughts about boycotting Wal-mart. They are abusing their power and it must stop. It seems like every time I need something they don't stock it for months or sometimes never again. It's starting to piss me off.

For a while, they didn't have the toothbrush heads for the electronic toothbrush that I had. They stopped carrying the only cough drops I like. Halls Breezers are the only ones that get the job done when needed and doesn't make me gag. Wal-mart doesn't have them anymore. On grocery day, we get these microwavable cheeseburgers and a Cobb salad for dinner. I look forward to it every week. Didn't have either one this week.

Around here, we don't have many grocery shopping options. Wal-mart is pretty much the closest and most convenient store here. The frustrations are mounting though some were subsided by a little treat....this time. While I didn't get my dinner preference, I did get the dessert I've been craving for the last few weeks.

SAMOAS!!! Some little Girl Scouts were selling cookies in front of Wal-mart. God bless them. My mom and Alan (my step-dad) were only going to buy the Thin Mints but generously picked up a box of Samoas for me. Thank you, guys!

So, I'm putting my boycott tendencies on hold....for now.

Hamster Power!

Page-a-day WC - 725 words

Some geniuses with too much time on their hands decided to come up with this clever idea for a more greener vacuum cleaner (whoa..that rhymes). They took one of those Roombas and combined it with hamster power. Placing the furry creature in the plastic ball, it runs in a certain direction and the robotic vacuum cleaner follows its lead. Of course, who could resist the urge to display this wonderful creation on YouTube? A few problems with this.

First of all, this may seem environmentally good, but not exactly healthy...for humans anyways. Does allowing a hamster rolling around vacuuming your floor while you sit on your ass, watching Oprah or Desperate Housewives sound healthy to you? Sure the hamster is getting exercise but you aren't.

Secondly, there's no guarantee the hamster will do a good job. There's no point in having a hamster vacuum your floor if it's not going to clean the whole thing. Maybe if it's being chased by a cat. But sounds to me you'll be vacuuming the floor yourself after all said and done.

Last, how long do you think it'll take for the animal rights groups to break out the protests? They jumped down Miss Britney's throat about having elephants in her circus video (not saying she was in the green on this one). They are certainly going to have a problem with this. They are trying to market it as the hamster is getting exercise. They can get the exercise without the vacuum cleaner attached to them. Basically, this idea is turning a hamster in to an animal slave, cleaning the floors in your house. I'm not cool with that.

Here's a challenge to all the inventors in the world. Develop a vacuum cleaner that is great for the environment and doesn't require your household pet to do your dirty work for you.

Please Don't Hold Back

Page-a-Day WC - 527 words

I swear every time I see this episode of Trading Spouses it pisses me off. The most ungrateful, self-centered people in the entire world. How dare Laura allocate most of the money to the girls. What is wrong with her? Whatever.

Wendy and her Australian boy toy going on and on about how broke they are but yet wanted to use the money to remodel the kitchen. When you're broke, remodeling a room or the entire house for that matter shouldn't be a high priority. You fix what needs to be fixed. When you have money to spare, then you think about remodeling. Besides, they chose this life. They CHOSE this. So, stop your whining and deal with it.

I get what Laura was trying to do. She wanted to make the girls feel special because obviously Wendy and her boy toy are too self-involved to think of them first. I think the girls should go live with their dad. Let Wendy and Mike do whatever they want. They act like they want to be unattached anyways. I don't have a problem with older women marrying younger guys but the kids well being should come first.

What is wrong with people these days?

It Bites the Big One

Page-a-Day WC (Friday & Saturday) - 854 words

I didn't write anything on Thursday for a couple of reasons. First, it was a crappy day all around. I had moderate case of the sneezes from hell. I know I should have pushed myself to try and write a little but decided to declare it my day off for this week.

The second reason has to do with a...er....challenge. It's called AbdWriMo a.k.a. Authors By Design Writing Month. I'm sure you know where the inspiration came from. The idea is to write 15K...not 50K...but 15K in the month of February. It's suppose to be a warm up to Nano, first of many. However, this may be put on hold.

I found out today the site in which this challenge is associated with will be shutting down at the end of February. That is if no one takes over the Admin role. This just sucks all around. This is the third site to shut down. I became a member of WriterBuddy about six or so years ago. That site shut down. Two more popped up in its place. One shut down soon after and now this one is on the verge of disappearing too.

I know it's expensive to keep a website up and running but damn. I'm all depressed now...

Are You Kidding?

Page-a-Day WC - 391 words
National Delurking Week - Day 3

A boy went missing ten years ago and has yet to be found. A sad story, right? You hear about ones just like it all the time unfortunately. Here's the twist in this one. His parents or rather foster parents didn't bother to contact the police ten years ago. That's right. He's been missing all this time and no one has been looking for him. What excuse could they possibly have for their behavior?

The Hermans, his foster parents, stated he had a history have running away. They assumed he found a sibling or his biological parents and went back to them. Sounds like a reasonable explanation to me. NOT!!!

It doesn't matter if he had a history of running away, which hasn't been confirmed yet, and wandering back. There's no excuse for not reporting a kid missing especially for ten years. He was just a kid and they were too lazy to care. They live in Kansas where it's against the law to not report your kid missing as it should be. I hope they do get their asses thrown in jail. What the hell were they thinking?

Keep Adam in your thoughts and hope he is still alive and well.
